Secure Central Point Configurator

For security and proper system operation, changes to SMTP settings, database users, or passwords must be made through Central Point Configurator. Setting the correct account ensures that Central Point Configurator can manage settings, update credentials, and write changes without permission errors.

To allow Central Point Configurator to record changes, ensure it has permission to write to the Central Point location. This involves updating the identity for both the CPConfiguratorPool and WebServerPool in IIS.

Update application pool permissions​

Follow these steps to set a dedicated local administrator or service account:

  1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run window.
  2. Type inetmgr and press Enter to open IIS Manager.
  3. In the left pane, expand the server node to display available application pools.
  4. Click Application Pools.
  5. Right-click CPConfiguratorPool and choose Advanced Settings.
  6. Under the Process Model section, click the Identity field, then click the ellipsis (…) button.
  7. In the Application Pool Identity window, select Custom account and click Set.
  8. Enter the user name and password for your local administrator or service account, then click Ok three times to confirm.
  9. In the Application Pools list, right-click WebServerPool and select Advanced Settings.
  10. Repeat the process and set the identity to the same administrator or service account.
