Preview Dimensions and Measures

The Dimensions and Measures feature lets you preview all dimensions, measures, and descriptions related to the data model directly from the Data Model Designer window. can also organize folders, create and delete subfolders...

	Item	Description
	Dimension	Define a perspective through which measures are analyzed, such as Products, Business Partners, and Dates.
	Measure	Identifies numeric fields whose values can be calculated or compared, such as Sales Total, Costs, Margins, and Quantities.
	Description	Provides additional descriptive fields that add context to dimensions or measures.

When to organize dimensions and measures folder

• Grouping related fields: Organize dimensions, measures, and descriptions into logical folders to make them easier to find.
• Improving data navigation: Arrange fields in structured subgroups so users can locate necessary metrics quickly.
• Maintaining model structure: Keep field organization consistent across projects to simplify maintenance.

Organize folders

1. In Data Models and Views, right-click a data model and select Data Model Designer.
2. Click Dimensions and Measures in the toolbar.
3. Right-click the dimension, measure, or description folder and select Add a New SubGroup.
4. Right-click the new subgroup folder and select Rename.
5. Click Ok to confirm.
6. On the File tab, click Save Data Model.

Organize dimensions, measures and descriptions

1. Expand the dimension, measure, or description folder and any subfolders.
2. Select the item to move, hold, and drag it into the desired subfolder.
3. Click Ok to confirm.
4. On the File tab, click Save Data Model.
